The remote control does not work

Search Help Articles

If your remote control is only working at close range or not functioning at all, please follow the steps below to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Checking the remote battery:

One possible reason for the remote not working or having limited range is low battery power. Please try replacing the battery with a high-quality brand. If the issue persists, we recommend testing with a second brand, as some lower-quality batteries may not deliver sufficient power.

The required battery is a CR2025 3V, commonly available at supermarkets, hardware stores, and electronics retailers.

Check that the LED at the top of the remote lights up when you press the buttons. However, please note that the LED may still illuminate even if the battery is too weak to operate the machine effectively, so this is not a definitive indication of battery health.

To remove the battery, please follow these steps:

Checking for any wireless interference:

For cases with reduced remote range it is possible that the court you are using the machine on is affected by wireless interference. If the remote was working fine previously at the same location it is unlikely for wireless interference to be the cause of the problem. Wireless interference can reduce the effective range of the remote control and maybe caused by several external factors.

Common sources of wireless interference include:

  • Overhead or nearby power lines

  • Mobile phone towers or communication centres

  • Wi-Fi routers or access points located close to the court

  • High-voltage electrical equipment or transformers

To rule out wireless interference as the cause, we recommend testing the machine and remote at a different location. If the range improves, it’s likely that interference at the original court is affecting performance.

Checking the remote receiver chip:

If the machine is not reacting to the remote, it is likely that the remote control receiver chip has fallen off the motherboard. This can happen due to vibrations over time.

Follow the instructions in the following video showing how to remove the control panel.

Please note, it isn’t necessary to unplug the cables.

Check your motherboard to see if the receiver chip is still plugged in, it looks like this (note, the coiled antenna may be different on varying machines):

If it is not present, you may find it loose at the bottom of your machine. Please see if you can locate it and then plug it back on to the motherboard. If possible, apply some glue or silicone to hold the receiver chip in place. Here is a video showing you how to remove and replace the receiver chip, which may be useful in understanding what to look for inside your machine:

Only for V1 machines:

If your remote is working and the receiver chip is attached but your machine still fails to respond to the remote control, perhaps the software is in the wrong setting. Start the machine by simultaneously holding down POWER + LEFT and choose the correct remote version before restarting your machine.

Also be aware that Spinfire Pro 1 machines will not have remote control functionality.

If all else fails, please contact your local Spinfre distributor.
