How to convert an internal battery Pro 2 or 1 machine to an external battery

This article only relates to v2 machines. V2 machines were released in October 2020.  To determine if you have a v2 machine, please read this article here.

This guide you explain how to convert your ball machine with an internal battery to having an external battery.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

  • Philips head screwdriver
  • 1 x 7mm Hex nut driver or spanner key
  • Electrical tape
  • Cable tie

PROCEDURE:

Step 1: Remove the Purple Body from the machine. For more details about this step, please visit our KB Article: How to remove the body from your Spinfire Ball Machine

Step 2: After you have removed the machine body, identify the n-shaped battery brace located on the rear end of the machine.

Spinfire - Identify Internal Battery Bracket
Step 3: On the rear side of the n-shape brace you will find 2 cable clips holding the motor wires. These wires would need to be removed from the clips by lifting the plastic strap and pushing it towards the wires. You can then remove the motor wires paying attention to how they would need to be reinstalled later.

Step 4: Remove each of the terminal wires from the battery using your Philips Screwdriver.

Step 5: Use the 7mm hex nut driver to unscrew the nuts on each side of the n-shaped brace. Each bolt will have one spring washer and one nut on it.

Step 6: Once the nut & spring washer have been removed, lift the brace upwards to remove it from the base. You can now remove your battery.

Step 7: Place the empty brace back into position.

Step 8: Put the spring washer and nut back on the bolts and screw the nuts to hold the battery in place using the 7mm hex nut driver. Avoid over-tightening.

Step 9: Secure the motor wires back into the cable clips that were removed in Step 3.

Step 10: Cover the ring terminals (shown in the photo below) with electrical tape to prevent the metal from accidentally touching anything in the future.

Cut back heatshrink to expose terminals
Step 11: Cable tie the terminal wires to the top of the empty battery brace. The below photo will give you an indication of what is required, however, please ignore the scissors in this photo and we have covered the terminals with heat shrink (you will most likely use electrical tape instead).

Step 12: Reinstall the purple body and control panel back onto your machine following the steps in this KB article you used in Step 1.

Step 13: Now follow the instructions in this video, starting from time = 3:03.

From time 4:48, the video shows the process of connecting the battery to a v1 machine, however, your v2 machine connection process is very similar. Simply connect your battery to the connection point under the control panel and turn your power switch to EXTERNAL and then power on your machine.

You have now converted your internal battery machine to an external battery machine.
